Bitsboard Sight Word App
With the Bitsboard sight word app students can now learn sight words on their own versus having to have a teacher or parent use flashcards or play games using sight word cards. Of course teachers are going to continue to give their best direct instruction of sight words, and this app serves as a support in addition to all of the direct instruction from the teacher. If you are a first grade teacher in SBUSD, all of our first grade sight words are embedded into the app so students can play various games with the words. I love that, with this app, students are not just reading the word but they are hearing it as well (which is so important for all first grade students). My students to love to play the game where they trace the letters in the word and then read the word and hear the word once they have traced the letters. At first when I was exploring the app I thought (especially with all of the other apps out there) that my students wouldn’t be as interested in bitsboard because it is somewhat simplistic. That was not the case at all. My students LOVE bitsboard and are constantly asking if they can go on it.
Acquiring this app is a little different from other apps, but pretty simple once you understand what to do. Here’s how to get it
then click the link below,
It will ask if you would like to open in Bitsboard, you then click yes and there it is… Bitsboard with a custom 1st grade site word list.
Another bonus, is that your students can practice at home too. Tell parents to follow the mentioned steps to download and students can then get the extra practice at home.
I’m confident your students will enjoy using it as much as mine do!
