desmos.com – A Free On-line Graphing Calculator
As they state on the desmos.com website, “…The calculator can instantly plot any equation, from lines and parabolas up through derivatives and Fourier series. Data tables open up a world of curve-fitting and modeling. Sliders make it a breeze to demonstrate function transformations. As browser-based html5 technology, the graphing calculator works on any computer or tablet without requiring any downloads. It’s intuitive, beautiful math. And best of all: it’s completely free.”
As many teachers have discovered, desmos.com is a free on-line graphing calculator. The advantage of a web-based calculator versus an app is that it is not device nor platform dependent. As long as a student has internet access, they can use it.

The following lists 3 uses for Desmos:
I do not have a classroom set of graphing calculators, nor do I require my students to have them, but there are still times when a graphing calculator comes in handy. So with desmos.com I can mirror my iPad to show the class a graph or I can have them use their phones to individually or in pairs create a graph.
Other teachers have used it to do projects where students can creatively demonstrate their knowledge of graphing.
The website has an entire section of classroom activities that are designed by teachers that continues to grow.
desmos.com is also a great place to teach about the components of the parent graph and what happens to the graph as these numbers change. They use a simple slider system to help the students see the patterns. Below is a video from their website demonstrating some of the uses of the sliders.
