EDU Success with….. comprehension and vocabulary. Do you have useful comprehension and vocabulary lessons you have used and want to continue to use while moving forward into the new standards? EDU/NEO Success is the answer for you. It combines a number of assignments together and will give you the teacher a weekly idea of how your students are comprehending stories and learning new vocabulary.
Here is a quick way to successfully add comprehension and vocabulary to your weekly lessons. This is a combination of assignments. One is designed to show a preview to the students of questions about their story. This assignment is called survey in EDU/NEO. You can download a PDF of pre-existing questions for the students to read. The “pie” looking assignment below is the survey assignment choice.
This picture shows how to add your PDF. Choose the corner turned paper icon and select a PDF file to add to your assignment. The students can then look at the comprehension and vocabulary questions before they are tested on them.
The second part is then creating test questions. For the vocabulary I have done the matching choice of questions under the test options. This works really good on a small amount of vocabulary to match with their definitions. The comprehension questions can be inserted exactly as they are written and/or can be modified for improvement. Once these questions are created you can copy them to do change for the next test or bank them to share with your colleagues.
The beauty of having these questions in EDU/NEO is instant feedback and grade reviews for every student. Categorize under comprehension and Vocabulary and you can have a consistent idea where each student is with both academic areas.
I hope this quick and fast look at using the assignments in EDU/NEO has helped you. Look for future EDU/NEO Success blogs to have a fun and interactive way to do Number Talk in your classroom. It is like a Chalk Talk with Technology with the added aspect of seeing every student’s involvement and responses.
