Are you tired of having drool piles on your students desks when reviewing for a quiz? Would you like to know instant feedback while your they are still in class? Do you not want to have to wait for an app to be loaded onto your school’s iPad cart to do something new and fun tomorrow? Bring in a little healthy competition to your room with Kahoot! With Kahoot! I dare your students not to have fun while they review the learning objectives.
Here are the basics to get you started:
One of the beautiful things about this web-based app is that it doesn’t need to be downloaded to a phone or tablet. All you need is an internet connection and students can access your quiz or survey by typing in Kahoot.it and with the game pin. As mentioned in the tutorial, you can create your own quiz with pictures and adjust the time from 5-120 seconds for each question. Teachers can also choose from a wide selection of published quizzes from previous educators and modify as needed to make them their own.
I wanted to assess where my students were individually so each student logged on with either their cell phone or an iPad. After the quiz it automatically saves the results and I can target individual students and see which questions were most commonly missed. After the quiz you can view the results or download and store for future use.
Another fun way to facilitate collaborative learning is by making teams. I had students grouped in teams of three or four and they were to discuss which was the correct answer before submitting their response.
Kahoot! changed the way I review for a quiz. It has provided instantaneous feedback that I can use on the spot to adjust based on their needs. Kahoot! is something you can learn today and use tomorrow.
