Are you looking for ways for your students to create or retell a story? Well look no further, Toontastic is the app to get!
In a nut shell, Toontastic is a visually based interface that uses images, animation, spoken words, and music to tell stories. Kids learn story structure by compiling elements (settings, characters, mood, etc.) into a visual Story Arc (graphite.org, April 2012).
I actually have not tried this with my students yet, but the design teacher at my school did. I was picking up my students from her class and I saw their amazing movies that they created being shown on the Apple TV. What I like best about this app is that it allows students to be 100% creative while collaborating with their peers. It aligns with many common core standards throughout the elementary grade levels, and seems very user friendly.
I’ll be trying it with my students next year and I hope you do too!
