Using Jing for Screencasting
Type of Technology: Screencast (Software)
SAMR Model Rating: Modification
Grade level: All
Subject area: All
Description of the lesson taught: Ever want to “show” someone how to do something on the computer rather than give/list directions? Here’s a super easy way to do just that: Screencasting. I used Jing, a free and simple way to share images and short videos of your computer screen. I used it to show the teachers at my school how to change their outgoing email to the new @sbunified.org.
You will need to download Jing onto your computer and you will need a microphone if you want to record sound as well. Once you’ve downloaded Jing, there will be a “sun” icon on the top of your computer and you click on that to “capture” (record) your image or video. You speak into the microphone while you are “capturing” what you are doing on the computer.
Once you “Finish” your screen capture, you can “Share via screencast” by clicking on the icon with 3 arrows. This will automatically upload your capture to Screencast.com, where it will take you to a link of your screencast that is ready to be copied and emailed/posted to whomever or wherever you want!
