What is FLIPGRID?
FLIPGRID is one of the leading video discussion platforms used by all different types of educators, students, families, and organizations. You create a Grid (your classroom or group), and add Topics in a video message to spark discussion, and your students/group respond to you in short video messages.
Is it hard?
Seems too hard to tackle? I’m here to tell you it’s not! FLIPGRID was presented to us, and I immediately wanted to (and did) try the next day with my students.
What Steps Do I Take?
Step 1: Create a free account at: flipgrid.com
Step 2: Name your Grid. I suggest, something like: Room 16.
Step 3: Create a Topic: Under your Grids, you can have multiple Topics, and this is where you can create your little video message to your students. The first one I did was called: Hot Dog! I wanted to see what the students felt about the heat during the month of October! I suggest starting small for your first FlipGrid, then adding more detailed topics!
Step 4: You record your little video, and are given an opportunity to add emojis to your picture (which the kids love and think you are cool, so I highly suggest you do this).
Step 5: Your video is created and you are given a code to give to your students!
What Do I Need to Do to Set it Up for my Students?
The only thing you need to do is download the App for your students. The cool thing about FlipGrid is it is an App for the students. They don’t need an account at all. All they need to do is type in the code (or QR scan it), and the video will pop up for them. It automatically guides them what to do to record back.
For your first time doing this, I would sit with your students. Below are some images I took when I was guiding my students through it. I then mirrored on the Apple TV, so I could show my entire class what to do the next time we tackled this!
