Have you seen the latest You Tube sensation? Did it make you want to show it to your students to illustrate a current topic, but we’re afraid of all the peripheral nonsense that would inevitably pop up on your monitor?
Let’s face it, there’s a wealth of eye catching, thought provoking, awe inspiring video clips available on the world wide web, but educators are often fearful of having inappropriate or distracting images hijack a presentation. Wimp.com is the solution! Rest assured, you will only be shown videos that are suitable for all ages and won’t offend or distract from your lesson goals. Wimp offers daily selections that cover the most current viral videos to nostalgic clips from the past.
They also have a search system that allows you to look up previous entries or search for a specific topic. For example, I was working on a unit for elementary students about trees and searched the archives and found clips from TED talks, Discovery Channel, lumber production to tree trimming mishaps. Science, history, human behavior, health and math are only a few of the subject areas that could be explored.
